Crete, the biggest of the Greek Islands (8.261 square Km) and the fifth biggest Island in the Mediterranean. The island lies across the southern part of the Aegean Sea approximately 100 kilometres away from the Peloponnese. The width of the coastlines reaches a staggering, 1.046 Km.

Its terrain is mainly mountainous with three large mountain ranges the highest reaches 2,500 metres at its peak. The ranges are known as the the White Mountains (the Madares in the west of Island, MT Ide, Psilorites in Central Crete and the Lasithi Mountains in the East). Crete is also famous for its rich soil and perfect conditions for growing olive oil, especially on the eastern side.

One of highlights to the Cretan terrain is its gorges and caves. The most famous and biggest is the Gorge of Samaria in the Prefecture of Chania.
